Mission statement

We help organizations and destinations create responsible travel through education, planning, experience design, and storytelling. Our work supports the growing demand for travel that respects people, place, and planet.

NorthEast Experience was founded in Marblehead on the ancestral lands of the Naumkeag Band of the Massachusetts and Pawtucket tribes. We strive to understand and honor the teachings of Indigenous peoples in our work and include their perspectives and lands in the design of our responsible travel initiatives.

“We know that the visitor-based economy is key to our business, and of course it’s very seasonal. Christine at NorthEast Experience helped us get started in developing a plan, and her regional and global insights were extremely helpful in navigating the process, bringing the topic to our Chamber, and getting it in front of our mayoral candidates.”

“Today’s travelers aren’t just seeking destinations—they’re seeking meaning and, in some cases, transformation. They are trading staged spectacles for raw authenticity, and cheap souvenirs for stories that linger (or transform) long after the trip ends. If your travel is reduced to selfies, checklists and crowded hotspots, you’re not experiencing a place—you’re consuming it. Meaningful travel experience should feel like visiting good friends—where you stay long enough to listen, learn, laugh and leave something better behind.”

  • Eva Mossberg

“In our evolving world, travelers seek not just a destination, but a deeper connection – to authentic cultures, untouched environments, and communities that thrive. By embracing responsible travel practices, our region can meet these shifting expectations, transforming tourism into a powerful force for economic prosperity. When we prioritize local businesses, safeguard our unique heritage and culture, and champion environmental stewardship, we don’t just attract visitors; we cultivate a resilient economy that honors our past, enriches our present, and secures a vibrant future for generations to come.”

“Running a lobster shack, we started looking into responsible experiences to highlight our sustainable practices and invite visitors to be part of our story. When guests understand where their food comes from and support responsible fishing, it helps protect our waters and ensures we can keep serving fresh, local seafood for years to come. Sustainable tourism isn’t just good for the environment—it creates deeper connections with people who truly value our way of life and want to help preserve it.”

  • Greg Arche

“Increasingly, conscious travelers seek more than destinations — they long for authentic connections, meaningful stories, and experiences that uplift local communities. When tourism honors both people and place, it becomes a force for good, enriching the world rather than exploiting it.”

  • Corrado Simontacchi

“European travelers are seeking destinations that align with their values—places that prioritize sustainability, cultural authenticity, and meaningful local engagement. Destinations and businesses have the unique opportunity to position themselves as leaders in responsible tourism by offering experiences that are both enriching and environmentally conscious.”
